    After some discussion we came up with this pricing model:

    KBPublisher licenses range in price from $98 to $998.

    The differences between these licenses types are:

    * Limit on the number of Users (staff).
    * Limit on the number of knowledgebase articles, files.
    * Source code is visible or hidden.

    It is important to understand that you can have unlimited end users who can browse your knowledgebase, login to Public Area, the restriction on to the number of staff logins that can be created to login and update your knowledge base.

    Purchasing a license for KBPublisher allows you to install
    a single copy of the product on one single web server.

    * Licenses are perpetual. Use your software for ever without paying any further fees.
    * All licenses include 1 full year of free upgrades to our software.
    * You can upgrade to a bigger license at any time without penalty.

    Will you be offering special pricing for registered charitable organizations?

    We are a small organization with all-volunteer staff, and an audience that spans the world - with an incredibly low annual budget for outreach. All of these factors drive us to pursue a single, central point of information such as KBPublisher. Its a perfect product for us...but without an ability to charge for access, membership or to write-off the cost as can private industry, we're going to be restricted to the open-source model.

    Onesign,

    I had additional questions - which I thought might benefit other readers, so I'm posting them here. Assuming that I will be purchasing the commercial version (i.e. version 3.0), and I go ahead and install and run the version 3.0 beta, are there any limitations to it? (nag screens, limited entries, etc.) And also, is there a risk that it will expire prior to the release of the commercial version in April?

    Bottom line - I don't want to start the conversion to Version 3 too soon - but I also don't want to wait if I don't need to.

    There are no limitations on beta version except it will expire on 15 of April
    (it stops working at all)

    We do not recommend beta version for live site.

    Theoretically it is possible, but we do all our best to have stable version by 15 of April.

    The challenge I have for this amount of cash is a lot of us look at the helpdesk/faq options all in one and they are very affordable while this only gets one job done. I'm wondering whether it might be a very good idea to get early adopters to use it with special pricing and figure out by then. I also think you'll have a serious challenge getting people to pay $100 for software that will only allow posting of 100 articles. I won't name other FAQ/knowledge managers that are competitive but they do the job. I think the product is excellent and would look forward to both using it and recommending it but at this time I may stick with what I have unless swayed.

    Yes, there are affordable combined products out there, but some people do
    not need a helpdesk. Our aim was to build a fully featured knowledgebase, to
    do one thing and to do it very well.

    Many all-in-one applications lack good knowledgebase management, it is very basic.

    So does purchasing the Small-Biz license mean Ioncube is no longer necessary?

    No, you need ioncube loader.
    Corporate and Small-Biz licenses holders get the readable source code for 99% of the product, the only piece of encoded code is our licensing system which we obviously need to keep closed for it to remain effective.

    Ouch. This pricing structure is in outer space.

    While KBP is a wonderful application, it's not worth almost a buck an article.

    I hope you take the time to sit down and re-think your pricing structure. I'd buy this application in a hot second if the pricing wasn't so unreasonable for what you get from the starter revision.

    $50 would be reasonable if you dropped the article limit completely or increased it (say 10-20 times)

    I'd expect to pay $100 for the basic version (with a massively increased article limit), not the starter version.

    Good job on KBP. Not so good on the pricing.
